Drawing on her years of experience teaching classes and organizing programs for Jews eager to learn more about Judaism after completing their formal schooling, Erica Brown addresses the common flaws in American Jewish education and how they can be fixed. In particular, she warns against the “march of the Jewish cliché”—that is, the way in which rabbis and adult educators offer a “warm bath of familiar phrases and slogans” instead of exposing their audiences to the richness and intellectual complexity of the Jewish tradition. Germany’s Bid to Keep Israel off the UN Security Council

The Jewish state has never held a temporary seat on the United Nations Security Council. For the first 50 years of its existence, it was denied membership in any of the UN’s regional groups, which control candidacies for these rotating seats. Then it was finally admitted to the Western European and Others Group, which promptly agreed to wait another twenty years before approving Jerusalem for a Security Council candidacy.
